Clothes that make us look fat and tips for dressing skinny.

Sometimes, it's the doughnuts. But, sometimes, it really is a bad fashion choice that makes us look larger or rounder or just plain fatter than we really are. LifeStyling breaks down which fits and fabrics can give anyone a "what were they thinking?" moment.

What makes you look fat: • High waisted jeans as Jessica Simpson painfully showed us • Shiny, clingy dresses that accentuate all the wrong places • Tight tops that give the illusion of a baby bump when there isn't one • Unflattering hem lengths • Skirts with slits down the front (hint: side slits are much more flattering) • Clothes that are too baggy • Patterns, especially stripes

What makes you look thin: • Dressing in one color from head to toe— and it doesn't have to be black • Choosing darker shades over brighter shades • Plunging necklines that draw the eye to your face and away from other problem areas • Pointy-toed heels that add length to the leg and muscle to the calves• Avoiding low rise pants and the dreaded muffin tops that come with them • A-line skirts flatter all figures
